Forcing a W’robe Detox

If you’ve been following me on Instagram you may have seen that I’ve moved. Yup, across the globe. I’ve changed apartment, city, country, continent, culture and time zone and now officially call Hong Kong home! As a family, this is our third move in under 5 years, and with each move I find myself detoxing my wardrobe! There is obviously a lot of other stuff that goes with moving half way across the world, but this seems like the most relevant for me today, as I sit in the same pair of denims I’ve been wearing for the last 3 weeks already (they have been in the laundry in between of course!) I am really surviving on a super-edited “Capsule Wardrobe”. At the end of every season I do find myself purging my closet. It’s an opportunity to reinvent your fashion-self, get out of a style-rut and reassess the clothes you own so that you show off your best parts – plus it’s extremely therapeutic and strangely cathartic. (and I ALSO have IKEA catalogue images stuck …

A career in Motherhood

I do love seeing all the recognition that moms get on International Mother’s day. Facebook, Instagram and Twitter are flooded with status updates and photographs of hardworking awesome women who receive their annual high-five from their kids, siblings, parents and other halves. It makes me think of all the skills and talent that mothers need to fulfill this always busy, sometimes annoying, super exhausting, frequently rewarding and always unconditional job. To me motherhood is when I’m assured that my kid isn’t going to end up a complete troll even during those moments of supermarket breakdowns and just-before-bedtime tantrums. Motherhood It’s a good mix of joy, irritation, love and fear and a lifetime commitment to one career. So in the spirit of my lifelong career here’s how my current CV reads … I’m an excellent Fast Food chef. In fact, I make 3-Michelin starred chefs look like amateurs. I don’t see them whipping up 4 different meals in ½ an hour in order to please the head-shaking, famished but fussy customer yelling “No, I don’t like that” – …

Checking Gingham off my list

While the Parisians are pretty hasty to pull out their spring trends as soon as the weather feels a few degrees warmer, I’m yet to find a Parisienne garbed in Gingham – why you ask? Probably because no French woman in her right mind would walk around looking like a bistro table! Sacré Bleu! I know that “lady-like gingham” or “Grown-up Gingham” is making a comeback this season, mainly thanks to Diane Von Furstensburg, Michael Kors, Joseph Altuzarra and Oscar de la Renta but I’m just not a follower. I’m reminded of Judy Garland’s pinafore dress in the Wizard of Oz, Romcom movies of “his and hers” picnics in the Hamptons, 40’s bathing suites and my school uniform! So no matter how pretty or updated this monochromatic fabric has been made – beautifully transformed into chic tailored suits or sheer flowing summer dresses, and by some of the most talented designers I might add – I’m going to be leaving this trend safely under my baguette and wine at my local bistro. Are you a fan? Are you …

Locking your love this V-day

Happy Valentine’s day! As a prelude to this global day of love, I took a stroll through the Instagram hashtag Lovelocks and I loved what I saw. While Paris is obviously famous for being The Origonal City de l’amour and the Pont de l’Archevêché and Pont des Arts are as notorious for being where lovers can place a padlock on the bridges as a symbol of, well, their eternal love – the key gets thrown into the river therefore bonding the couple forever. It was awesome to see where else all over the globe lovers are locking their affections – and so, here is a mini gallery of instagrammers who’ve #lovelocked the world over. I hope you find your special spot!

Oh how they twinkled on the Golden Globes red carpet

Not only does the Golden Globes kick off the most glam season in Tinseltown but it’s my favourite awards show. Perhaps it’s because it’s the first – there’s no red-carpet fatigue yet – and I love it because it’s more like a super-chic runway show. Celebs showing off the best dress, jewels, heels, make-up, hair… the list of inspiration is endless! Never mind all the PR that designers get at this time of year too, yes they might sink hundreds of thousands into their runways shows twice a year but this is when they really get noticed. Here are my favourites of the 72nd Golden Globes which took place on Sunday night – and they just happen to be hard working fabulous moms too! Reese Witherspoon in her long strapless and ultra-sparkley Calvin Klein dress took my breath away, it took 80 hours to make and came with this personal note from Mr Klein (see below)! It’s the simplicity if the gown that makes it so elegant, the perfect balance between simple and sparkle. And how cute it the …
