It may seem as if I’m obsessed with handbags, and that would be a loud YES! But who isn’t with a whole new season of the beauties around? This cute video entitled “Can you hold my bag” directed by Mélinda Triana for Carven, landed in my inbox the other day and I’ve played it at least 13 times. Chic girls running around perfect Paris with Carven’s latest Saint Sulpice bags … I had you at handbag right? http://www.carven.com
How does one choose a new season handbag when they are all so drool-worthy? It’s a seriously tough job! What I love most about this summer’s collections are all the prints that are popping up. Forget about buying yourself a plain purse and splash out on a funky pattern – this way while you’re still waiting for summer to come around you can zing up the monochromatic outfit with a perfectly colourful and printed accessory. Here are my favourites – plain seems to dull now right? Left to right, top to bottom: Proenza Schouler, Alexander Mcqueen, Longchamps, Saint Laurent Paris, Stella McCartney, Valentino, Burberry.
Perhaps it’s because it’s mid-january and the sky couldn’t be more grey and I’m pining for colour, blossoms and the sweet scent of spring but this campaign has made my tuesday! Georgia May Jagger stars in the Spring Summer 2015 campaign for the iconic british brand Mulberry and the video is full of pink, purple and white british blooms immediately transporting you to a dreamy summer’s day. Complete with seventies rock soundtrack and big hair, erm… and the bags aren’t bad either! The full print campaign lensed by renowned duo Inez van Lamsweerde and Vinoodh Matadin can be seen at www.mulberry.com/collections/SS15. What do you think? I didn’t take much convincing for me to try almost every bag in this chaotic little store, The Bangkok Bootery, in Bangtao Beach in Phuket, lucky for me i’m not intimidated by giant crocodiles with fierce teeth! Almost every inch of the floor was covered in shoe boxes with shoes on top, the wall shelves filled with clutch handbags, hangers with croc skin and Python skin jackets and loads of crocodile skins – head and all – hung upside down on the ceiling. Farming crocodiles is a pretty big thing in Thailand, in fact according one story in the Bangkok Post, “Thailand has the largest crocodile farming industry in the world and famous international fashion brands source their exotic skins from the kingdom”. The manager of The Bangkok Bootery store told me that they buy the skins from registered farms and then you can have anything made on site. Any shape and in pretty much any colour! A fashionistas dream right there! Bangkok Bootery, Canal Shopping Village, Laguna Hotel, Cherntalay, Phuket. http://www.bangkokbootery.com
Ah the Gucci backpack, perfect for mom’s who have to carry around a whole lot of stuff right? And I particularly love this colourful python skin version of the sac á dos, gorgeous and practical. http://www.gucci.com
Yes, the mini-bag, we’ve seen them everywhere right? The red carpet is one thing but we’re seeing celebs carrying them on their morning coffee run as they’re snapped with large shades and grande lattes in hand – damn that LA sun all year round! But seriously, do these A-listers have a secret handler carting the rest of their stuff? Where the hell does it all go, or perhaps unlike me they aren’t having to lug the snack, the water bottle, the juice carton, the toy Transformer, the cell phone, the nude lipstick, the lip balm, the red lipstick, the lipgloss .. really I could go on. Surely all these celebs with their miniature sacks are really just dashing to the convenience store for a loaf of gluten-free bread therefore just needing a few coins in there right? Or perhaps this miniscule bag is in fact carried around in their giant-size never-full and they whip it out with their essentials while leaving the big sack in the car/with the handler?! Yup! That must be it! Of course I’m …
