Must-have beauty products for your make-up bag

Written by Andrea Thorne As you’ll soon find out that I love trying out new products so here are seven of my latest favourites that I’ve tried and tested and are inside my back-to-work-after-the-summer make-up bag (it’s a thing!) #backtoworkaftersummermakeupbag Read on … Let’s start with Foundation, and usually this comes with commitment. It means surety on colour, texture, application, season, finish and never mind the whole ‘do I apply with a brush, sponge or finger tips’ debate’. All of these decisions can leave some of us feeling a little apprehensive to try out a new one each season. I, on the other hand, have been a foundation slut for the better part of 15 years, and like a lot of woman, I’m still out to find the holy grail. (But I’ll leave that to an entirely dedicated post!) For now, I can safely say my all-season but specifically for summer favourite has to be … Drum roll … Laura Mercier’s tinted moisturiser, oil free with SPF 20. It has an silky texture and is super …

Beauty Tips : Summer tanning sorted

Hey La Belles,  This post was written by my oldest and proudly beauty-obsessed friend, Andrea Thorn. Ms Thorne was wearing lipstick before I even knew what lip balm was and she has her well-manicured figure tips on all the cutting edge products and how-to’s in the beauty industy (in fact, by day she even works in the beauty world, SO glam!) Lucky for us – she’ll be a regular on La Belle Crush, so look out for her posts!) Mid-summer is here! It’s the season we’ve all been counting down to, summer sun, longer evenings, rose wine and of course stripping off the layers that winter demands for shorter hemlines and some bikini time! But if you’re anything like me, the lily whites are seriously unsightly and the unexposed flesh really requires some hard-core prepping. And when you go from 12 degrees one day to 24 the next, you need quick solutions. Nothing too demanding or too time consuming and has instant results – a good exfoliator and some self bronzing and you’ll be ready to show …

Springing into beauty action

It’s no shock that I’m obsessed with Spring – i mean after months of the cold who isn’t right? I’m definately done with Winter and every now and then Paris teases us with a warm day reminding me what to look forward to! We may still be a few weeks away but I’m already in the Spring mood, and a very red one at that. These are the beauty products helping my frame of mind along… OPI nail lacquer in Red my Fortune Cookie: There are nothing like short red nails to enliven an outfit, not that I reserve this colour only for the hotter months, in fact, I’ll choose this colour any time of year. It just feels more fitting when I can match it to my wardrobe. Clarins Eau des Jardins: The perfect scent for hot weather, and as the name implies, the fragrance reminds me of a spring garden.  Created with essential oils and dry oils – although the fragrance is not at all oily – it leaves the skin feeling more moisturised which adds extra skin care benefits. A real mix …

Brighten your day

In the middle of a very busy Paris Fashion Week I managed a calm morning at one of my favourite places in Paris, Piscine Molitor where any time spent here is sure to brighten your day. Clarins Beauty House invited myself and a bunch of other fabulous bloggers to test out their new Aquatic Treasures Summer 2015 Make-up Collection – sublime location right?   The new collection comprises a handful of colour lip balms that are light, sheer and moisturising which makes them ideal for summer, just adding a soupçon of colour. A bronzing compact which is right up my alley – I’m never one to say no to a little self-bronzing and this compact has a variety of shades in one, so you can tailor your sun-kissed shade. And for the eyes, three little pots of Ombre Iridescent (cream-to-powder eyeshadows), will finish off your aquatic nymph look! One of the Iridescent colours is a bright turquoise blue and while sparkly blue eyes can be a little intimidating, international Artistic Make-up Director, Eric Antoniotti, shared a few tips on how to get …

3’s a trend : The head band

I’ve always been a fan of the headband, especially on those more-than-usual tighter-for-time mornings, you know the ones, where you should really wash your hair, but know that you’ll never  leave the house on time and so you scrape it back hoping no-one will notice that it’s looking a little in need of a shampoo? Well finally, here’s the answer to all your problems. Clever Proenzer Schouler, Fendi and Chanel must have been thinking of those mornings when they sent their models down their A/W 2015 catwalks in up style hair-do’s and headbands. Thank you, you’ve saved us. More images on Style.com

Nod to the bob

If the Oscar red carpet is anything to go by, then we should all be rushing out and getting our hair cropped into an awesome long-bob right this minute! Forget about Scarlett’s short back and sides, I mean how many of us can really pull that off anyway, the haircut of the moment is chic, sophisticated and hot – and while you’re at it, make sure you’re styling it to the side! Dear Doc, do I have to suck in my stomach in all day to have a flat tummy?

Every Monday morning I promise myself to lay off the baguette, drink more water, eat more raw veggies, use a cellulite cream religiously every day, oh and get to sleep earlier to help my ever darkening black eye bags. By Wednesday the boulangeries (every 20 meters or so) have cruelly lured me in, the cold weather has hampered my l’eau intake, the school run has messed with my cellulite cream and Mr Sandman keeps missing my apartment on early his rounds! However, this doesn’t stop me from enthusiatically starting each Monday with a “this week will be different” mantra. Lucky for me, this week I have a little extra help as I’ve been paging through the funny and useful “Doctor, I want to be the fairest of them all” written by Olivier Courtin-Clarins. The book is super cute – I especially love the illustrations, by Soledad Bravi – has loads of useful tips that cover the whole body. Dull skin? Tight skin? Red skin? Monsieur Courtin-Clarins has a solution to try for all of it. Which foods will help from …

January’s SOS Beauty products

I’m literally covered from head to toe. Beanie, top, sweater, scarf, coat, gloves, socks… hardly an inch of my skin shows, but it’s thirsty for love, care and hydration. These are what I’m using at the moment to moisturise, hydrate, illuminate and prime my skin: Shu uemura depsea water lavender mist:  This morning I woke up to My 4-year-old telling me how lovely I smell, all due to this product! With eight herbal aromas this fine mist leaves the skin feeling hydrated, plus it smells so lovely and fresh. I use it as a toner or just before going to bed – even makes your jimjams smell good! Benefit speed brow: Colours and sets brows in less than 5 seconds. Really, it’s that quick! Dermalogica daily microfoliant: I love this microfoliant, and have used it for years. It’s a powder, add water and you’ve got a gentle exfoliant that removes all the days make-up and city grime. Estée Lauder enlighten even skin stone correcting cream: We’ve heard of BB, CC, DD creams – well this is the …

All that glitters is a stick-on tattoo

Trust Queen Bey to seal a trend and have everyone rushing to get in there right? This tattoo-as-jewellery trend really started last summer with a few celebs trying it out, but no-one quite does it like Beyonce. She was photographed in the metallic gold and silver body art while celebrating her birthday on a yacht in the south of France. Necklaces, belly chains and bracelets adorned the stars super-sexy body. Perhaps it was the house of Dior that inspired this trend when jewelry designer Camille Miceli designed a limited-edition set of temporary tattoo earrings, bracelets and cuffs made from, wait for it, 24-carat gold in 2012 (these would probably stop me from bathing for days!). The cheaper and non-gold versions became available and the trend doesn’t seem to be going anywhere fast. Models at the Dries van Noten S/S15 show at Paris Fashion Week waltzed the catwalk with painted-on gold lip rings – a similar effect to the metallic tattoo and a trend we can more than afford. I love that they shine and glimmer just like jewellery and are perfect for …
