Get stoned

The last few seasons have seen blinged-up accessories adorning the catwalks and retail shelves everywhere. Statement neckpieces with shiny stones, finer jewelry with diamonds and diamanté, as well as coloured gemstones to finish off an outfit of the day perfectly. Now, it’s all about returning to the roughest form of the stone – uncut and unpolished. So, If you’re looking for a little something to spoil yourself with, or an inexpensive accessory to add to the upcoming season’s wardrobe, then find yourself a piece of jewellery or an accessory with a raw gemstone or crystal. The choice is endless – think Moonstone, Aquamarine, Morganite, Agate or Rose Quarts – but make sure that the look is unfinished and raw to wear this micro-trend perfectly. Raw stones are also recognised as carrying certain healing qualities within them, but whether you believe in these powers to heal or not, you can’t deny that they have an innate natural beauty that brings an ethereal quality with them.     Yale Sonia Bourbon & Bowties Christina Rose Jewelry Krystleknightjewellery.com Fresh …

Multiple piercings, it’s a thing.

A few months ago I had a third hole pierced in my ears. The last installment to my trilogy didn’t feel as extreme as when belly rings were en vogue and I had that done, or when I had the top of my ear pierced or the secret tattoo inked. However, I most definitely DID feel like a teenager when I walked into the brightly coloured neon-lit Claire’s Accessories and sat on the cheerful pink high-chair (surrounded by Hello Kitty paraphernalia!) and was presented with a plethora of rainbow coloured earring options by a young nervous working student who was about to shoot my ear with a lethal dart gun (Okay, not that dramatic I guess!). But, yes, it most definitely hurt! If you’ve been thinking about getting another hole done then you’ll be pleased to know that now, more than ever, with earrings and piercings once again popping up on the A/W 2015 catwalks there is no better time than now after all! Erm, okay so not quite what I had in mind as the Givenchy girls, …

Pimp your normcore sneakers

Normcore is here to stay, you know the unisex fashion trend that has taken the last few seasons by storm and dressed even the most fashionable fashionistas and celebs in unpretentious and average-looking clothing so they can distinguish themselves and be unique? !?! Whether for convenience, laziness, pure comfort or stand-out appeal, it doesn’t seem to be going anywhere fast, and so if like me, you’ve purchased that obligatory pair of white, non-descript, unpretentious pair of ‘tennis shoes’ but are feeling like they could do with a little “dressing up”, then you’re in luck! Check out these cute and easy concepts that I spotted at Le Bon Marche – jewels, coloured laces, stars, pom-poms, the list goes on. If you haven’t got yourself a pair then perhaps here’s the perfect reason to get them now, you can create a new pair of shoes with an easy accessory! Bling those snow-white sneaks with these ideas, and if you haven’t visited the new shoe department at Le Bon Marche yet then get to it – you won’t be disappointed!

Nod to the bob

If the Oscar red carpet is anything to go by, then we should all be rushing out and getting our hair cropped into an awesome long-bob right this minute! Forget about Scarlett’s short back and sides, I mean how many of us can really pull that off anyway, the haircut of the moment is chic, sophisticated and hot – and while you’re at it, make sure you’re styling it to the side! Wishing for the hippest arm candy

You may have seen these gorgeous multi-coloured wrist adornments in the last few years when they’ve become awesomely popular, but do you know the story behind these colourful strings? Created by two Parisian women, Jenny and Delphine, who were inspired after their travels in Brazil and as the story goes, these coloured ribbons are given out to visitors in the city of Salvador, Brazil as a symbol of luck. They are tied onto the left wrist by a third party – each one tied with three knots and each knot comes with a wish made by the wearer. Once they have aged and finally fall off it is believe that your wishes have come true. The Hipanema duo used the idea of these multicoloured ribbons and devised a way for us to wear them as a fashion accessory – taking 200-year old tradition and making it trés boho chic. Each bracelet has a few strands of coloured ribbon, pearls, beading, shells and threads that join onto a chic magnetised clasp which make it super easy to wrap around …

Dear Doc, do I have to suck in my stomach in all day to have a flat tummy?

Every Monday morning I promise myself to lay off the baguette, drink more water, eat more raw veggies, use a cellulite cream religiously every day, oh and get to sleep earlier to help my ever darkening black eye bags. By Wednesday the boulangeries (every 20 meters or so) have cruelly lured me in, the cold weather has hampered my l’eau intake, the school run has messed with my cellulite cream and Mr Sandman keeps missing my apartment on early his rounds! However, this doesn’t stop me from enthusiatically starting each Monday with a “this week will be different” mantra. Lucky for me, this week I have a little extra help as I’ve been paging through the funny and useful “Doctor, I want to be the fairest of them all” written by Olivier Courtin-Clarins. The book is super cute – I especially love the illustrations, by Soledad Bravi – has loads of useful tips that cover the whole body. Dull skin? Tight skin? Red skin? Monsieur Courtin-Clarins has a solution to try for all of it. Which foods will help from …

All that glitters is a stick-on tattoo

Trust Queen Bey to seal a trend and have everyone rushing to get in there right? This tattoo-as-jewellery trend really started last summer with a few celebs trying it out, but no-one quite does it like Beyonce. She was photographed in the metallic gold and silver body art while celebrating her birthday on a yacht in the south of France. Necklaces, belly chains and bracelets adorned the stars super-sexy body. Perhaps it was the house of Dior that inspired this trend when jewelry designer Camille Miceli designed a limited-edition set of temporary tattoo earrings, bracelets and cuffs made from, wait for it, 24-carat gold in 2012 (these would probably stop me from bathing for days!). The cheaper and non-gold versions became available and the trend doesn’t seem to be going anywhere fast. Models at the Dries van Noten S/S15 show at Paris Fashion Week waltzed the catwalk with painted-on gold lip rings – a similar effect to the metallic tattoo and a trend we can more than afford. I love that they shine and glimmer just like jewellery and are perfect for …

Love, Style and Bad Habits …

Parisian women have always seemed mysterious. The subtle pout, the nonchalant way they carry themselves and their confident low-key look that oozes femininity. Think Brigitte Bardot, Audrey Tautou, Marion Cotillard or Vanessa Paradis – sexy, stylish, alluring and seemingly mysterious and untouchable… until now. How to be Parisian Wherever You Are : Love, Style and Bad Habits is an insightful tongue and cheek manual written by four friends and Paris natives, Anne Berest, Audrey Diwan, Caroline de Maigret and Sophie Mas. I’ve just finished the book in Thailand (great for the holiday attention span!) and it’s the perfect handbook on how the modern Parisian woman manages to stay so mysterious that can be practiced wherever you are in the world. It’s penned as if you’ve just made friends with a bossy, opinionated Parisian and she’s dishing her intimate secrets, obviously with immaculate red lips while sipping a glass of red wine with a cigarette in hand! She’ll share her fashion tips, teach you how to make your boyfriend jealous and enlighten you on the etiquette for beauty products and plastic surgery. She’s the Paris …

Make me pretty one lash at a time

At first, having eyelash extensions made me a little nervous – I mean, I didn’t want to rock up at school-pick up looking like a drag queen (after all the french mamas like to do things trés naturelle)! There are the obvious worries such as my own eyelashes falling out and never growing back or the glue creating small noticeable snot-balls on the eyelid! Eeuw! All these thoughts were enough to keep me layering on my favourite mascaras for eternity. But there’s no better time than the holiday season right? So I finally did it and they are perfect. I opted for the safest and shortest length available as I wanted thickness more than length and they are super sexy, save on time and my four-year-old thinks I look like a princess! I luuuurve them! If you’re a virgin, then here are a few tips: – Find a reputable salon, ask around – and don’t go too cheap either, they last around 6 weeks so you want them to be professionally done with care and precision. – The …
