Party Props!

Since our trip to France time has flown too fast – it’s almost been a month! I’ve been wanting to upload the look I wore for my Mom’s birthday party for a while, and finally it’s here and what could be more easy than an LBD? Yup, a little dress that one can throw into a suitcase is always a must when travelling and preferably one that isn’t high maintenance! I’ve added a pair of black pair of skinnies here, the weather was a little chilly that night and these came in super useful. In fact a pair of black skinny denims are possibly the most versatile piece of clothing ever made! So I paired the two together, added a few props (we decorated the tables with loads of these fun Photobooth props and even made a few of our own) and teamed the look with my ‘shoe-du-jour’, the lace-up flat. Falling for Autumn

The family and I have been back in France for the last two weeks to celebrate my mama’s birthday, which btw has been far too much fun. Spending time in the French countryside in Autumn is magnificent. Big blue skies and soft sunshine during the day whilst sightseeing the local villages and evenings spent by the fire drinking red wine – who could ask for more? This countryside doesn’t exactly call for high fashion, so as the leaves turn from bright green to dirty yellow, a cozy jersey and muted layers are the best wardrobe pieces for comfort and a bit of warmth. On one of our daily explorations, we stopped by the medieval town of Martel to snap a few photos (taken by my talented sister-in-law) while the locals set up for a medieval festival! I love this cozy cream jersey, (the tie in the front adds a cute detail making it a little less ‘grandma’) and I find myself still reaching for summer’s denim shirt – worn here around the hips (so 90’s but so versatile!) …

Here comes the sun

Doesn’t summer just make us happy? Sunshine, green grass, blue skies, pineapples and one of my favourite places to hangout in – the Luxembourg Gardens (yes… I may have mentioned this before!) And even though the Parisians have a bad reputation for saying ‘non‘ to most things – along with the famous shoulder shrug and ‘bof‘ – it’s trés hard to say ‘non‘ to beautiful summer days in Paris. By now you may have noticed that I’m a huge fan of the “jean-pant”! and even in mid-summer I can’t let go of my denims fetish, so a pineapple, a visor (the best sun blocker!) and a bright yellow pouch and voilá, hello summer! Oh and the little ditty ‘here comes the sun’ playing in my head. P.S I have to add that since moving to Hong Kong I realise that the visor it’s a Chinese mid-summer staple and not just a fleeting fashion trend, so I am absolutely embracing the visor – I’ll be the blonde on the beach under the black visor, find me on Instagram! Reflecting white

Just before heading east to Hong Kong, I managed a few more shoots in the beautiful city of Paris. With the backdrop of such an architecturally rich city it inspires one to “up ones game” and look chic even if in a pair of denims (did I mention how much I love a pair of denims?) I also love this summer’s all-white trend and I’ve longingly looked at the white denims in store and lusted after a pair, but each time I’ve slipped them on, they just don’t look right on me. So, instead I’ve found myself a light grey pair that I’m more comfortable in and works with summer’s lights ‘n whites – with the added help of these voguish Spartan sandals from IRO of course (totally obsessed with them). I’ve been able to mix and match these denims with almost everything and cheat on the all-white look too. Palma hues

An afternoon walk in Palma de Mallorca amongst the city’s cobbled streets, sherbet coloured walls, pretty balconies and contrasting shutters called for a simple outfit. Hello denims. Denims are my staple and I probably wear them 60% of the time. I find them comfortable, versatile and no fuss. They’re the “easy going” item that can be made up or dressed down and are always included in my travel wardrobe, coming in very handy when you find yourself exploring a beautiful city such as Palma. Each season comes with its own styles, colours and details and so a pair of denims is not usually an investment item for me – I prefer to buy the high street versions from Zara and H&M, mostly so don’t feel too bad at the end of the season when the new styles take my fancy. Summer has brought with it the shorter ankle grazer with frayed edges and torn knees (the I-don’t-really-care-look!) and while I’m sure this won’t last for too much longer, I love that it screams suuuuuummer, especially in this …

Golden summer days

Paris is the most beautiful city. You don’t have to search very far to find something that charms the eye and it has spoilt me forever. Each time I step out of my apartment I’m greeted by something breath-taking which reminds me not to take each of these moments for granted. The only problem for me is deciding which of the many impressive landmarks is my favourite, and I often hear myself telling whoever is in earshot that “this is my favourite building in Paris” and it’s never the same one – it’s just so hard to decide! In all my shoots I’ve specifically chosen places where a landmark or special place is shown and this look is no different – and yes, ‘It’s my favourite’! The glimmering coupole of the Hôtel des Invalides is truly magnificent and lucky for me around the corner from where I live. The final resting place of Napoleon Bonaparte, but commisioned by Louis XIV back in 1670, and is home to the Musee d’Armee (the military museum). Spring into Palazzo Pants

With the change of season and the longing for hot summer days I see no reason why not to wear a pair of ultra wide-legged trousers – also known as Palazzo pants. I love these ‘I’m really a pair of pants but look like a skirt’ pieces of fashion; they have such a cheeky sense of humour. Finding their way onto the fashion scene in the late 60’s, these comfy, practical and elegant pants became super popular because various stuffy restaurants owners at the time didn’t like contemporary fashion trends where womenfolk were wearing trousers, and so they refused to allow these modern gals into their establishments unless they were sporting a dress. And so, some of our awesome predecessors decided to outwit these ‘rules’ and opted to introduce Palazzo trousers into their evening wardrobes (ah ha! Take that you stuffy, sexist so-and-sos).
