Multiple piercings, it’s a thing.

A few months ago I had a third hole pierced in my ears. The last installment to my trilogy didn’t feel as extreme as when belly rings were en vogue and I had that done, or when I had the top of my ear pierced or the secret tattoo inked. However, I most definitely DID feel like a teenager when I walked into the brightly coloured neon-lit Claire’s Accessories and sat on the cheerful pink high-chair (surrounded by Hello Kitty paraphernalia!) and was presented with a plethora of rainbow coloured earring options by a young nervous working student who was about to shoot my ear with a lethal dart gun (Okay, not that dramatic I guess!). But, yes, it most definitely hurt! If you’ve been thinking about getting another hole done then you’ll be pleased to know that now, more than ever, with earrings and piercings once again popping up on the A/W 2015 catwalks there is no better time than now after all! Erm, okay so not quite what I had in mind as the Givenchy girls, …

Louis Vuitton A/W 2015 show diary : see all the pics

Fashion week month is over and the hangover has set in. I had a huge party and now my head’s  little fuzzy with the realisation that it’s over and I’ll have to wait a whole season for all those designs to hit the stores! The Louis Vuitton show, held at the Fondation Louis Vuitton was the climax for me. Not only did I get all dressed up, have amazing access to see front rowers and celebs entering the Fondation but I revelled in experiencing the energy of the show, eyeballed who was wearing what, marvelled at the ingenious structure, designed by Es Devlin, and ogled Nicolas Ghesquière’s magnificent collection. If you haven’t managed to watch it yet – GO! The highlight was taking over Louis Vuitton’s South African twitter account, alongside well-known bloggers (Manrepeller’s Leandra Medine and The Blonde Salad’s Chiara Ferragni, amongst others who took over their respective home country’s accounts). What a fun experience and I’m still pinching myself! My very own luxury hound slipper – whaaat!?

The fashion world can definitely take themselves too seriously at times – especially when we’re talking fashion weeks. Four weeks per season where editors, buyers, designers, PR peeps, bloggers and models do the four cities – New York, London, Milan and Paris – in just over four weeks. Whew! This week we started the last of the leg of the marathon month in jolie Paris, but I thought I’d do a little catwalk-recap of Milan. While looking through the hundreds of catwalk pics from Missoni to Marni there is one particular image that has been stuck on repeat in my memory … The Gucci Hairy Shoes! Was this a joke by newly promoted Creative Director, Alessandro Michele? I mean I know there have been complaints that Gucci hasn’t had a “point of view” but this is an interesting one to take – disruptive perhaps? I do love the fact that perhaps there is a little laugh to be had – I certainly giggled at the thought of Paris’s fashpack cruising along Rue St Honoré with these furry horsebit …

De-Fendi-ng the Strelitzia

You may be forgiven if you don’t know what a Strelitzia is, however after Fendi’s show in Milan this week it seems that more of the fashion world will now know what I’m referring to. Also know as the Crane flower or Bird of Paradise flower, this graphic-like long stemmed orange and purple bloom is indigenous to South Africa, yip, our very own piece of L’ Afrique du Sud had Karl Lagerfeld inspired! Who knew he was such a fan?! I can’t say that growing up I was that much of a fan of this flower, my grandfather had a huge plant in his garden that continuously bloomed, but these plants seemed so ugly compared to the prettier petunias, roses and camellia flowers that sat alongside them and flowers still remind me of South African homes circa the 1980’s – along with aged brown patterned sofa’s and olive green carpets. But like everything, these bird-like flowers are having their resurgent moment and what better way than on on of the world’s most prestigious catwalk right? And now that …
