Multiple piercings, it’s a thing.

A few months ago I had a third hole pierced in my ears. The last installment to my trilogy didn’t feel as extreme as when belly rings were en vogue and I had that done, or when I had the top of my ear pierced or the secret tattoo inked. However, I most definitely DID feel like a teenager when I walked into the brightly coloured neon-lit Claire’s Accessories and sat on the cheerful pink high-chair (surrounded by Hello Kitty paraphernalia!) and was presented with a plethora of rainbow coloured earring options by a young nervous working student who was about to shoot my ear with a lethal dart gun (Okay, not that dramatic I guess!). But, yes, it most definitely hurt! If you’ve been thinking about getting another hole done then you’ll be pleased to know that now, more than ever, with earrings and piercings once again popping up on the A/W 2015 catwalks there is no better time than now after all! Erm, okay so not quite what I had in mind as the Givenchy girls, …

De-Fendi-ng the Strelitzia

You may be forgiven if you don’t know what a Strelitzia is, however after Fendi’s show in Milan this week it seems that more of the fashion world will now know what I’m referring to. Also know as the Crane flower or Bird of Paradise flower, this graphic-like long stemmed orange and purple bloom is indigenous to South Africa, yip, our very own piece of L’ Afrique du Sud had Karl Lagerfeld inspired! Who knew he was such a fan?! I can’t say that growing up I was that much of a fan of this flower, my grandfather had a huge plant in his garden that continuously bloomed, but these plants seemed so ugly compared to the prettier petunias, roses and camellia flowers that sat alongside them and flowers still remind me of South African homes circa the 1980’s – along with aged brown patterned sofa’s and olive green carpets. But like everything, these bird-like flowers are having their resurgent moment and what better way than on on of the world’s most prestigious catwalk right? And now that …

All that glitters is a stick-on tattoo

Trust Queen Bey to seal a trend and have everyone rushing to get in there right? This tattoo-as-jewellery trend really started last summer with a few celebs trying it out, but no-one quite does it like Beyonce. She was photographed in the metallic gold and silver body art while celebrating her birthday on a yacht in the south of France. Necklaces, belly chains and bracelets adorned the stars super-sexy body. Perhaps it was the house of Dior that inspired this trend when jewelry designer Camille Miceli designed a limited-edition set of temporary tattoo earrings, bracelets and cuffs made from, wait for it, 24-carat gold in 2012 (these would probably stop me from bathing for days!). The cheaper and non-gold versions became available and the trend doesn’t seem to be going anywhere fast. Models at the Dries van Noten S/S15 show at Paris Fashion Week waltzed the catwalk with painted-on gold lip rings – a similar effect to the metallic tattoo and a trend we can more than afford. I love that they shine and glimmer just like jewellery and are perfect for …
